Bengaluru, Feb 6: In the election being held for one vacant seat in the legislative council from the legislative assembly constituency, deputy chief minister (DCM) Laxman Savadi, filed his nomination papers as a BJP candidate on Wednesday February 5.

Savadi handed over his nomination papers to assembly secretary, M K Vishalakshi. Savadi's nomination was proposed by chef minster, B S Yediyurappa, deputy chief minister, Govind Karjol, ministers, R Ashok, C T Ravi, and C C Patil apart from MLAs, Belli Prakash and Jyothi Ganesh. Savadi filed two sets of nomination papers.

The Congress and the JD(S) are yet to take a decision on fielding their candidates for the election. In all likelihood, Savadi will be the lone remaining nominee in the contest and his election might turn out to be unopposed. Thursday is the last day for filing of nominations and if necessary, election will be conducted on February 17.

Savadi expressed his gratefulness to all the party leaders who chose him as the party's nominee for the council election. Speaking to media persons on Wednesday, he said that he was facing the need to get elected to either the council or the assembly within six months of becoming deputy chief minister, and it has been five months since he began functioning as DCM. He said he hopes that the Congress and the JD(S) will help him to get elected unanimously by not fielding their candidates.
