Udupi, Feb 6: "In protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act brought about by the NDA government at the centre headed by the BJP, Welfare Party of India has been organizing 'Save Constitution, Protect Citizenship' campaign all over India. The concluding programme of the campaign will be held at New Delhi on February 10 by way of parliament march," said Karnataka state president of the party Tahir Hussain, addressing a press meet here on Wednesday February 5.

Hussain stated that CAA is against the basic aspirations of the constitution and international law of United Nations Organizations. He said that this law differentiates people on the basis of their community affiliation and hence felt that it will end secular traditions of India.

He stated that his party does not oppose Citizenship Act 1955 and subsequent amendments brought to it. He added that his party fights against the act brought about by the NDA government in 2019 as it contains some issues that are unconstitutional. He said that his party is strongly opposed to National Population Register (NPR) and expressed the view that NPR should never be implemented. "On behalf of our party, writ petition was filed against NPR on December 25 in the Supreme Court," he stated.

Karnataka regional secretary of the party Sulaiman Kallarpe, Udupi district president Abdul Aziz Udyavar, former district president, Anwar Ali Kaup and district working president Riaz Ahmed, were present.
