Puttur: Official on spot inspection obstructed, assaulted - Complaint filed

Puttur, Feb 8: It is said that Abhilash, member secretary of Puttur Urban Development Authority (PUDA), who was on a spot inspection relating to complaint that rules were being violated in constructing a building, was reportedly obstructed from discharging his duty and attacked by the owner o the land in question, identified as Ranganath Kedilaya, and his son Gopalakrishna. A complaint in this connection was filed in the town police station here.

The said incident had happened at the APMC road bend in the city on the evening of Thursday February 6. Abhilash M P, resident of Begur in Gundlupet taluk, Chamarajanagar district, who is the member secretary of PUDA, has filed this complaint. The police have since arrested the accused.

Ranganath Kedilaya has been constructing a building at the spot where the APMC road branches out from the main road. The sub-divisional officer here had instructed Abhilash to inspect the spot and check whether the building was being built in violation of rules as per the complaint. Abhilash along with engineer, Deepak H S and vehicle driver, Santhu, had reached the spot and was conducting checks. It is said that land owner Ranganath Kedilaya and his son, Gopalakrishna, obstructed the officials from discharging their duties and engaged them in arguments.

Abhilash said in the complaint that Gopalakrishna held him by his collar, slapped him on the chin and assaulted him.
