Bengaluru, Feb 10: Two members of Irani gang, which has mastered the art of diverting attention of cashiers and then stealing cash, were arrested by the police personnel of RMC Yard police station here on Sunday February 9. The arrested members are Saeem Roswami (28) and Sabeer Hussain (35), residents of Irani Colony, Mumbai.

Their modus operandi of the gang is to visit car show rooms and service centres. They used to strike a conversation with the cashier. During the conversation they used to divert their attention and make good their escape with cash found in the counter. They used to fly between Delhi, Hyderabad and Bengaluru and escaped from the city after committing the crime, the police said.

The two, the police have found, posed like prospective buyers of new cars. They looked for a good opportunity, attracted the cashier's attention towards something, and then stole cash with sleight of hand. On Febuary 1, they had visited Trident Auto shop located within RMC Yard station limits here. They spoke to the cashier about the possibility of getting currency notes of a single series. A customer who had brought one lac rupees had kept it on the top of the cash counter. When one of them was speaking to the cashier and the customer to whom the cash belonged, the other took away the said cash and escaped. The other too left the showroom soon, duly speaking about something. After long time, the show room staff realized about the theft and then filed complaint in the police station.

The police, when checking CCTV camera recording of the show room, found who the culprit was. The same two persons had also stolen cash in similar fashion from within the limits of Jnanabharathi police station limits where too a complaint was filed.

The duo had come from Mumbai to Delhi on January 26 and then to Mangaluru. They stole money from within Manglauru (north) police station limits in the same way and reached Bantwal where they stayed for three days. After stealing money from within Udupi and Bantwal police station limits, they went to Mysuru. After stealing Rs 1.5 lac from Mandovi Motors at Mysuru they had reached Bengaluru. But this time they were not lucky enough.
