Ramya Haridas appointed Youth Congress secretary

New Delhi, March 5 (IANS): Congress interim President Sonia Gandhi has appointed Ramya Haridas, MP from Alathur in Kerala, as National Secretary of the Youth Congress in a major organisational reshuffle besides appointing five general secretaries, 40 secretaries and five joint secretaries in the youth wing.

Haridas was in the news when she complained of being heckled by BJP MP Jaskaur Meena.

Speaking to IANS, the first-time MP said "I am surprised and will work for the party to strengthen the organisation."

"Congress interim President has approved the proposal of the appointment of National General Secretaries, Nation Secretaries and Joint Secretaries of the youth Congress," a release from K.C. Venugopal said.

The party's youth wing which have been on the forefront of the opposition on the streets has lost its sheen since the introduction of the election system in the organisation, said a former office bearer.

Rahul Gandhi had introduced election system in the youth organisation when he took over as General Secretary in-charge of the Youth Congress and had roped in K.J. Rao a former Election Commission advisor for party polls.

The organisation has some familiar faces including four from Chhatisgarh who were part of the research team in the state - Deepak Mishra, Kulisha Mishra, Shahid and Milind Gautam. Spokesperson Amrish Ranjan Pandey has been elevated as secretary.
