TN schoolgirl attacked by jilted lover out of danger


Chennai, March 5 (IANS): A 13-year-old schoolgirl was attacked by a jilted lover here who attempted to slit her throat, police said.

The girl is now out of danger and recovering in hospital.

Twenty-six-year-old Nithyanandan was arrested for attacking the eighth class girl, police said.

The girl was admitted to a government hospital on Wednesday and is out of danger.

According to police, Nithyanandan was bothering the girl who lived near his home. However, the girl refused his advances.

On Wednesday after she returned from school in the afternoon the accused again accosted her.

Upset at the rejection, he tried to cut her throat with a knife. Hearing her cries, people nearby rushed in and saved the girl while Nithyanandan fled.

The accused was later caught by the police.
