Moodbidri, Nov 12: “The Tuluvas of the coastal district are cultured and kind-hearted. A slight adjustment is needed to focus fully on contemporary Tulu culture during the Vishwa Tulu Sammelan”, said Sri Charukeerthi Battaraka Bhattaraka Swami of Jain Math. 
 
Swami Charukeerthi was speaking after inaugurating the one-day workshop on Tulu at Vidhyagiri campus of Alva’s College here on Wednesday November 11. 

The workshop was organized as part of Vishwa Tulu Sammelan which will be held at Ujire, near Dharmasthala, in December.
 
“The Vishwa Tulu Sammelan should cover various facets of Tulu culture and not sideline the important issues,” he added.
 
“Politeness and harmonious living are inborn virtues of Tulu natives. The new generation should be educated on contemporary worship and also myths about traditional worship of spirits”, said Dr D Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala.
 
Dr Heggade also appreciated the steps taken by the local committee in making the forthcoming Sammelan a meaningful meet.
 
MLA Abayachandra Jain, former minister Amarnath Shetty, MP Nalin Kumar Kateel, town councilor Bhoja Kotian, Sucharita Shetty, Subhaschandra Padival, Narayan P M, Dr B Yasho Varma, Andar Gunapal Hegde, and Yerya Laxminarayana Alva were present on the dais.

Alva’s Education Foundation chairman Dr M Mohan Alva welcomed the gathering.  Journalist Paramananda Salian compered the programme. 
 
Competitions highlighting Tulu culture were held on six stages simultaneously. These stages are dedicated to legendary icons Agoli-Manjanna, Kantahbaare-Boodabaare, Koti–Chennaya, and Kordabbu Taniya–Maniga.
 
Dr Narendra Rai Derla, Panja Bhaskar Bhat, Bannanje Babu Amin, Dr Rajashree, Dr Sunitha Shetty, Ramachandra Baikampady, Bhaskar Rai Kukkuvalli, Dr Gananath Shetty Yekkar, and Kadri Navaneeth Shetty, presented papers on various topics on the occasion.
