Puttur: Miscreants spoil environment - Throw dead fowls into pond

Puttur, Mar 17: Miscreants threw dead broilers into a pod located by the side of Amchinadka - Nettaru road at Suddamoole in Koltige village in the taluk on Sunday night. The act of spoiling scarce freshwater has come in for all-round condemnation.

This inhuman act came to the notice of the locals when they found that the mortal remains of the dead birds were found floating in the pond. They conveyed information to Koltige gram panchayat and other officials. The locals, who used water from the pond for farms and other purposes, urged the officials to find out the culprits and punish them.

Koltige panchayat secretary, Laxmi M, development officer, Sunil H T, medical officer, Dr Avinash, village accountant, Sabir, police personnel of Bellare station, visited the spot. The gram panchayat officials, with the help of locals, succeeded in burying the dead birds found floating in the pond.

In the meantime, Sampya police arrested a person who was found to be disposing of garbage in the public road on Monday. The accused, Abdul Khader was caught redhanded. He had brought garbage in a vehicle and was found to be throwing the same in a public place. Sampya police assistant sub-inspector Ramachandra and a constable, who were patrolling the area after being informed about this act, found Khader disposing the garbage in the public place and arrested him. Abdul Khader was arrested when he brought garbage filled in a plastic bag in his pick-up truck and was throwing the same on the public road leading to Navodaya high school, Bettampady. The pick-up truck was taken into possession, and a case was registered against the accused.
