Udupi: Coronavirus scare - Kasturba Hospital urges people to donate blood voluntarily

Udupi, Mar 20: Blood transfusion is a very essential component of any medical treatment. On day to day basis, the blood bank at Kasturba Hospital in Manipal requires around 70 to 80 units of different blood components. However, the main source of the blood donation is to voluntary blood donation drives, with the help of students and different associations. Amid the coronavirus outbreak as a preventive measure, the Hospital has postponed several blood donation camps.

"In this regard, healthy people are requested to come forward and help the patients, who require different blood components. The Blood bank will be situated in a safe place. Donors need not visit the OPD of Kasturba hospital. Anyone feeling healthy may voluntarily donate blood. It can be life saving," Dr Shamee Shastry professor and head Department of Immunohematology Transfusion, Kasturba Medical College and Hospital requested the public.
