Bengaluru, Apr 11: The animal husbandry and veterinary services department of the state has clarified that chances of coronavirus infection in domestic animals is possible only when an infected person touches them. So far there is no report of animals getting infected with Covid-19 in the country on their own, said the statement given by the department in this regard.

Giving information on the subject Dr Manjunath M T, director of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services, said, "Coronavirus infected people should not touch domestic animals under any circumstances. Cleanliness needs to be maintained at all times in the animal rearing centres. Disinfectants need to be sprayed as per requirement.

"So far no coronavirus infection in animals is reported in Karnataka. The preventive measures need to be followed strictly in order to avoid the spread of coronavirus from animals to human beings and vice versa."
