Bagalkot, Apr 13: As per information received a woman identified as Niramala Basaparayya Talaginamani (61), resident of Terdal in the district, who was suffering from heart-related ailments, lost her life on the night of Saturday, April 11. It is said that she could not get medical attention on time as all the roads were closed due to coronavirus lockdown.

Nirmala was residing near Allamaprabhu Deva temple. Late night on Saturday, she experienced a sudden spurt in heartbeat. She consumed tablets prescribed earlier by the doctor but did not get relief. The family then called a doctor of a private hospital at Harugeri in the district. The doctor asked the patient to be immediately brought to the hospital at Harugeri. A car was hired immediately but all the roads leading to Harugeri like Terdal - Hidakal, Terdal - Kudachi, Terdal - HIarugeri main roads and also interior roads were blocked. The car moved around the town for over two hours in search of a way out but it could not go out. The family then returned to Terdal and went to a private hospital to admit the lady, but by then Nirmala had breathed her last, it is said.

Former local municipal councillor Shreeshaila Kelaginamani lamented the fact that all the roads were closed and therefore his aunt lost her life. He said that the police should have at least kept one of the roads open with police security so that people in a critical situation can use that road.
