Shimoga, Dec 16: Five members of a single family were killed in an accident that occurred between a Maruti Omni van and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation bus at Bettadahalli near Tarikere on Tuesday December 15.
The bus was going to Turuvekere from Shimoga. All the deceased were travelling in the ill-fated van. They have been identified as K P Ramachandra (45), his wife, Shashikala (32), Sudha Bai (70) and Geeta Bai (65), all residents of K R Puram, Shimoga, and Tara Bai (75) from Ranebennur.
While the other four died on the spot, Shashikala breathed her last at Tarikere hospital. Two others, who have also been critically injured, were shifted to Mcgann Hospital here. The van was badly mauled and twisted out of shape in the accident.
