Mangalore, Dec 17: “Disaster management needs very quick action and there should be no waiting in times of emergency”, said Dr Shantarama Shetty, vice-chancellor of Nitte University, at the inaugural ceremony of a seminar on ‘Emergency Medical Management in Industrial Disaster’, here recently.
 
Speaking on the occasion, he said that disaster management is a matter where negligence or even a delay of seconds, will lead to a big problem.

“So, the departments related to disaster management should take precautionary methods and also keep equipment for the rescue operation”, he added.
 
Dr Shetty said, “Industries should make necessary arrangements to fight the disaster and there are instances of minor accidents turning huge, so such incidents should be sorted out without any delay. Medical units or immediate treatment will help in saving the lives of victims”.  
 
The seminar was organized by Department of Factories, Boilers, and Industrial Safety, in association with Mangalore Chemicals and Fertilizers (MCF), Panambur. The seminar was organized at Hotel Deepa Comforts in the city.
 
Prof Srinikethan from NIT-K, Dr M Ambarish, professor from Kasturba Medical College, A R Vijayendra, joint director of Department of Factories, Boilers, Industrial Safety, K Prabhakar Rao, director of MCF, and general manager G Sunil Kulakarni, were present.
