Bangalore: CM Under Compulsion to Appease Dissidents – Meeting Scheduled on Dec 20

Bangalore, Dec 17: State Chief Minister (CM), B S Yeddyurappa, who no longer can overlook the splinter group of dissidents headed by MLA, M P Renukacharya, in view of the ensuing legislative council and Bangalore Mahanagarapalike elections, had decided to sort out the issues raised by them. For the purpose, he has invited the group to meet him on December 20.

It is said that the Swamijis of Siddhaganga Mutt and Suttur Mutt have played a role in arranging this meeting. Both these spiritual heads have already held discussions with, and advised Renukacharya, not to endanger the survival of the government at any cost. At the same time, they conveyed their opinion to the CM, that he has no other option left, but to listen to the grievances of the dissidents and try to appease them. In addition to independent MLAs, who have been given ministerial berths, all the 21 legislators identified with the group of dissidents, have been invited for talks. Venue of the meeting is yet to be decided, and some leaders have opined that the presence of the above two Swamijis, if ensured at the proposed meeting, will add sanctity to the agreements reached thereon. The disgruntled legislators, it is learnt, have assured the Swamijis that whatever advice the Swamijis give, would be followed by them.

The Chief Minister at present, is reluctant to give ministerial berths to MLAs, M P Renukacharya, Gopalakrishna Belur and S K Bellubbi, as the demand for ministerships is far in excess of available berths, considering the need to placate a few aspirants close to Jagadish Shettar and Janardhan Reddy. Possibly, he may agree to accommodate Renukacharya in the lone unfilled vacancy available as of now. Yeddyurappa in the meantime, has said that he is amenable to give vacant posts in corporations and boards and address other problems of the dissidents. The independent ministers are also expected to be given charge of a few districts at the meeting.

Minor irrigation minister, Govind Karjol, who is considered close to the CM, said that the dissidence that has now cropped up, is too minor to be considered at the coordination committee meeting.
