Mangalore: Palemar Inspects Road Concreting Works in City

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (SP)

Mangalore, Dec 18: District in-charge minister, Krishna J Palemar, visited various places in the city where road concreting work is in progress, at places like Pandeshwar, RTO Office, Karangalpady, Kankanady, Bendoor, Bejai etc., and asked the concerned to increase the pace of work.

At Karangalpady Katte, he asked the concerned to undertake the work in way so as to ensure that no one faces problems. After noting that a portion of the road at Bejai has developed cracks, he asked for this portion of road to be removed and replaced by fresh concrete road. He informed that most of the road works are in final stages, and that the city roads will get further boost, once Rs 100 crore additionally demanded towards the city development, is sanctioned. He promised to give prominence to beautifying the city-scape and provide drainages in the coming days.

The people expressed anguish at the fact that the underground electric supply cables that have passed through the land below the concrete road recently laid between Upper Bendore and Lower Bendore has suffered damages creating electric supply problems in Kankanady. They objected to the plans of the Corporation to break the concrete road here for repairing and replacing the cables, as they felt, this should have been planned in advance by making suitable provisions. The deputy commissioner said that they expected this to happen in advance, and the administration is facing problem in changing the course of the cables, as the owners of private lands located by the widened roads are not cooperating. The minister also said that there is no other go but to dig out 20 feet of the road and reconstruct it again.

The minister said that the work of filling the pits found by the side of the concreted roads with mud will start from Thursday onwards, and be completed within a month.  He directed the concerned to close the sides of the concrete roads with sand. He also asked the officials to use mud to fill in the gap between the concrete road stretches between Valencia to Morgans Gate, as a part of the road can not be concreted now because of the stay order issued by court, against cutting down five trees that are blocking the road works.

District deputy commissioner, V Ponnuraj, corporators, engineers and officials of the City Corporation, accompanied the minister.
