Udupi: Former Municipal President, Jeweller, Gujjady Narasimha Nayak No More

Udupi, Dec 21: Gujjady Narasimha Nayak (83), former president of the local municipal council, who set up ‘Swarna Jewellers’ with branches at various places, breathed his last at his residence, Gujjady House, on Sunday December 20.

He is survived by six sons including jeweller, Gujjady Ramadas Nayak, and three daughters.

Narasimha Nayak’s ‘Swarna Jewellers’, which has specialized in making intricately carved artefacts, doors, idols etc., for temples, has branches in the town as well as Hubli and Mangalore,

Nayak, who came here in 1941, was a Rashreeya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) activist to the core, having been jailed in 1948 and 1975, when RSS was banned. He had been a long time BJP councilor. He was the president of Gujjady Seva Trust, Renovation Committee of Gujjady Sri Lakshminarayana Temple, Shubhaprada Nayak Endowment and Swarnabharana Educaion Foundation.

Home minister, Dr V S Acharya, A G Kodgi, MLAs, Raghupati Bhat, Lalaji Mendon, MLC, Kota Srinivas Poojary, zilla panchayat president, Gladys D’Almeida, municipal president, Dinakar Shetty Herga, RSS leaders, Chamber of Commerce office bearers and various other persons paid their last respects to the departed soul. Swamijis of various Mutts here also condoled the death of Nayak.
