Raichur: Seven Units Shut Down - State Reels Under Power Shortage

Daijiworld Media Network – Raichur (SP)

Raichur, Dec 22: As seven units of the thermal power station located here were shut down due to the leakage witnesses in the central grid, the state came under heavy  spell of power cuts on Monday December 21. Some technical defects have been sighted as the reason for the leakage.

For the first time in the history of the thermal power generation plants of the state, seven units simultaneously stopped power generation on a single day. Sources in the Raichur Thermal Power Station expressed confidence of resuming power supply in a day, after conducting the necessary repairs. It is said that the leakage, if left undetected, would have resulted in a major catastrophe.

The units automatically shut down power production, because of the pressure experienced due to the said leakage. The power production ceased at around 7 am on Monday, and almost the entire state was affected for nearly five hours. By afternoon, hydro electric power supply was arranged from Munirabad unit, to compensate for the shortage to some extent.
