Udupi: Contract Worker Dies at Tebma Ship Builders Igniting Tension

Udupi, Dec 24: A skilled gas welder employed by a ship building company here burnt down after an incident of accidental fire in the yard at Malpe, here succumbed to injuries on his way to the hospital on Wednesday December 23. 

The deceased gas welder has been identified as 28-year-old Bablu Singh, a native of Bihar, employed at Tebma Ship Builders here; who died due to burning after accidental fire engulfed him while he was working on welding thick sheet of metal inside the tank of a vessel. Three more workmen involved in the work along with him were also affected and reported to be out of danger.










Meanwhile the trouble began when the rest of workmen employed at the site, sought to see the dead colleague and other injured. The policemen restrained the workmen from getting near to their distressed colleagues.  The angry workmen in a fit of rage damaged the cars that were parked in the company premises, the furniture and fixtures as well as police vehicles. More policemen arrived at the spot and resorted to caning, in order to control the worker’s fury and contained the situation from going out of hand.
