Mangalore, Dec 25: Officials of the Mangalore City Corporation sealed an illegal slaughterhouse and brought it under the possession of the civic authority in the Kudroli area here on Thursday. The slaughterhouse, which was being run without a proper licence, was owned by Noor Mohammed.
Raghunath, Assistant Health Officer of the corporation, told The Hindu that Mr. Mohammed was using a 1,000-sq.-ft shed to store livestock and then transport them to slaughterhouses. But a few months ago, he started slaughtering the animals there without necessary clearances. “He was even served a notice about a month ago. He did not respond to it nor did he stop the activities,” Mr. Raghunath said. However, when the authorities raided the shed on Thursday, all the livestock had been transported out of the premises.
