Bangalore, Jan 2: Four persons lost their lives in two separate accidents in the city on the New Year eve, supposedly due to drunken driving. They included a sub-inspector of police on duty.

Lakshminarasimhaiah (55), sub-inspector of Chikkajala traffic police station, Hemant Gowda (22), son of Kanaka Kumar, inspector of Devahanalli  Airport police station and Sooryanarayana (42) died in an accident in which six others were injured.

Eight friends had gone to Nandi Hills to celebrate the New Year. Four persons were coming back in their Maruti Zen car while four others were following them in their Maruti Swift car. Perhaps due to excessive speed, the two cars hit one another near Kogilu Gate on Bellary Road in the city at around 1.15 am on Friday January 1. The cars also hit a motor bike on which a sub-inspector on duty was moving, killing him on the spot. Car driver, Hemant Gowda, and Sooryanarayana, who was in the car, were also killed. The Zen car was very badly mangled and the police motor bike was tossed away to the service road by the side of the road because of the impact of the collision.

In another case, the motor bike in which two friends were returning home after celebrating New Year, hit a road divider, killing the rider and injuring the pillion rider. The incident occurred in Halasur traffic police station limits. Arun (20), a tennis trainer residing at CKC Garden on Lalbagh Road, was killed while being shifted to a hospital. His friend, Veereshwar was injured. The accident occurred near the Command Hospital on Old Airport Road at around 2.30 am on Friday.
