Bengaluru, May 12: The Congress party has decided to raise its voice against the failure of the government in managing coronavirus infection and helping people in distress. A decision on this issue was taken at a meeting of senior party leaders held at the office of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) on Monday, May 11.

The meeting was held under the leadership of KPCC president, D K Shivakumar, and former chief minister and leader of the opposition, Siddaramaiah.

The Opposition was of the view that it would be improper for it to become a silent spectator for the failure of the government in handling problem of migrant workers, disinterestedness in bringing back the Kannadigas stuck in other states, failure to help people in distress, partiality in distributing food kits. The leaders said that the best option before the party is to indulge in friction with the government that has not acknowledged the support extended by the party as a responsible and constructive opposition. It also felt that people's opinion should be shaped against the government.

KPCC president D K Shivakumar met southwest railway divisional manager Ashok Varma and handed over a letter opting to meet train fare of people who are willing to return to Karnataka. In the meantime, an assistant police sub-inspector of KG Halli station Rajasaab has been suspended on the basis of a viral video in which he can be seen kicking the migrant workers when they were running away during the period they were asked to disperse from the police station.
