Udupi: Indo-German Workshop in Radiotherapy Begins at MU

A two-day Indo-German workshop on Predictive Assays and innovative technology in radiotherapy was inaugurated by Pro Chancellor of Manipal University (MU) Dr H S Ballal here on Saturday January 16.

Professor Streffer, a renowned radiation research scientist from Germany and five others scientists from Germany are attending the workshop. Eight Indian scientists and oncologists are also present.
 
Professor Strefffer, spoke on the long standing cultural and scientific collaboration between the two long standing friendly nations.
 
Dr M S Vidyasagar, head of the radiotherapy and oncology department of the Manipal Hospital, while welcoming the gathering stressed on the need for predictive assays in radiotherapy, to better utilize the advanced treatment strategies in radiotherapy.
 
Dr Mukesh Kumar, deputy director general, International Health Division, ICMR, New Delhi informed the gathering about the various international programmes initiated by ICMR and how the Indo-German collaboration started 30 years ago. ICMR is ready to interact with MU and other organizations to encourage Indo-German collaboration in the field of cancer research
 
The discussions are on recent developments in radiation biology and oncology. The workshop intends tohelp research institute in cancers to develop new protocols. The department of radiotherapy and oncology, Shirdi Saibaba Cancer Hospital and Research Centre, KMC, Manipal and the department of radiotherapy and oncology, KMC Hospital, Attavar, Mangalore jointly organized the workshop under the auspices of Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).
