Bangalore: CM Reveals Plan to Retain DCs, SPs for Minimum of Two Years

Bangalore, Jan 19: After inaugurating the annual conference of senior police officers here on Monday January 18, state Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, said that the government wants to retain the superintendents of police and deputy commissioners of districts for a minimum period of two years in their respective districts.

“Because of various pulls and pressures, we could not work to the expectations during the last one year. But, I will not allow such blunders to occur during the coming year. In the interests of the society at large, it is necessary that there is close coordination between the DC and SP of the district. Therefore, I have decided not to transfer them for two years. The officials too should positively respond to the initiative, by not unnecessarily inviting problems,” he advised.

He felt that the policemen need to be more vigilant over the activities taking place after the evenings. If left unchecked, these activities will give rise to anti social elements. The fact that the higher officials have stopped the practice of paying surprise visits to the taluk centres of late, appear to have paved way for the lower level officials to conduct themselves at their own whims and fancies, he explained.

Yeddyurappa wanted that the relationship of the police personnel with the citizens should be improved upon. “The policemen should deal courteously with the affected people when they visit the stations. There is a common belief that well-meaning people are afraid to visit the police stations, whereas those indulging in illegal activities are able to do so without any hesitation. There is a need to change all these,” he advised.

While asking the officials to spend more time in their offices, so that it inspires their lower ranks to fall in line, he added that the government has been planning to improve the ratio between the policemen and the citizens and to open 25 new police stations during this year.

State chief secretary, S V Ranganath, home department additional secretary, Abhijeetdas Gupta, state director general of police, Dr Ajaikumar Singh, DGPs Sharatkumar Saxena, Jija Harisingh and Dr D V Guruprasad, ADGP S T Ramesh, Neelam Achut Rao, M K Srivastava, A R Infant, Shankar Mahadev Bidari etc., participated in the conference.
