Taj Group serves gourmet meals to migrants, medicare staff


Mumbai, May 25 (IANS): The Taj Group of Hotels has dished out over 16.50 lakh nutritious meals - designed by celebrity chef Sanjeev Kapoor - to migrants and medical workers at hospitals in Mumbai, New Delhi and Bengaluru, a top official said here on Monday.

The Indian Hotels Company Ltd (which runs the Taj Group), along with Taj Public Service Welfare Trust and the TajSats which is the airline caterer, have joined hands for this service in the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic in the country, said IHCL Managing Director & CEO Puneet Chhatwal.

In Mumbai, in collaboration with the BrihanMumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), over 10,000 meals daily are supplied to the medical fraternity at Kasturba Hospital, KEM Hospital, LTMG Sion Hospital, Nair Hospital and Sir J.J. Hospital, with a total of around 5.90 lakh meals delivered till now.

Similarly, meals have been delivered since March 30 to the medical staff at Delhi's Lady Hardinge Medical College, and later seven other hospitals including the Loknayak Jaiprakash Narayan Hospital, Rajiv Gandhi Superspeciality Hospital, G.B. Pant Hospital, Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital, Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital and Dr. Ambedkar Hospital, with over 1.91 lakhs meals delivered till date.

Over 17,000 meals have been served to medical staff in Bengaluru's Victoria Hospital and Old Diseases Hospital in partnership with Hotel Taj West End.

"An additional initiative was flagged off on March 31 in partnership with Tata Sons, TajSats and TPSWT to provide around 7.85 lakh meals to migrant workers in Mumbai," said Chhatwal.

As many as 11 IHCL hotels around the country offer rooms to the medical fraternity since the past over a month in Taj Lands End, Taj Santacruz, The President and Ginger Andheri East (all in Mumbai), Ginger Madgaon (Goa), Ginger City Centre, Noida (UP), Ginger New Delhi Rail Yatri Niwas, Ginger Kalinganagar, Ginger Manesar, Ginger Surat and Vivanta Guwahati, besides 38 other hotels in the group that are given out for quarantine purposes including for repatriated flight passengers.
