Bengaluru, Jun 3: Be-Ivy Education, a reputed institute here, known for training students to get into Ivy League Colleges recently conducted an online webinar on 'Studying in international colleges post COVID-19'.
This free webinar was exclusively conducted by Dr John Franco Tharakan, CEO and mentor at Be-Ivy Education for parents of students studying in grades 10, 11 and 12.
The hour-long webinar for parents covered a range of topics including - The criteria set by Ivy League colleges for student intake, changes in norms due to COVID-19, college application process and steps involved, the role of parents in helping children discover their passion and ideal career path.
“Getting their children into top colleges has always been a major concern area for parents. This year, there is a stronger sense of panic among parents who planned for their children to study abroad, especially due to the uncertainties prevalent because of COVID-19. This is why we decided to host this free webinar to address concerns of worried parents,” said Dr John Franco Tharakan.
Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), an education agency that releases global university rankings annually, in its recent report titled 'Indian Students Mobility Report 2020' stated that 47.38 percent of students in STEM fields changed their higher study plans abroad. The figure for non-STEM students is at 51.59 percent. These are the current numbers, a lot more will also depend on policies and norms framed by the government once operations resume.
The team at Be-Ivy is in constant touch with top universities around the world to keep track of their plans for handling current and future applications. Meanwhile, premier universities like MIT and Stanford have cancelled information sessions and tours for prospective students. The on-campus admissions offices of a few more institutes have closed indefinitely. While a few Ivy League institutes have already adapted to the online training model, a few more are soon expected to follow suit.
These changes are sure to have a big impact on the intake of students in the coming year. This also calls for a more focused and revised teaching approach, development of a newer range of skills among aspiring students and increased responsibility for parents.
“Students seeking admissions from 2021 will need to work smart and hard as competition is likely to be more for admission slots globally with many students deferring admissions due to COVID-19 this year. We are rolling out special programmes at our campus as well as online to help students improve their chances of getting a seat in international colleges of repute,” added Dr John Tharakan.
“The first and most important step is to identify the real passion of the child using a mix of techniques and to help them prepare goals along with parents and teachers as this will build the right foundation for their success. We at Be-Ivy Education, work very closely with students to ensure each of them has a personalized curriculum. Meanwhile, we also work with parents to understand the requirements of the child better. The final result is a mix of academic coaching,
mentoring and counselling that students go through during their formative years here at Be-Ivy,” said Katherine H Rozario, mentor and co-ordinator at Be-Ivy Education.
