Bengaluru, Jun 5: Protesting against the failure of the department to decentralise evaluation centres, the lecturers stayed away from evaluating second PU chemistry answer sheets which they were expected to undertake on Thursday, June 4.
The lecturers said that evaluation of answer sheets for science subjects is being done only in Bengaluru. They pointed out that lockdown rules are in force and lecturers do not get proper hotel accommodation and lodges to stay besides transport to reach the centre. "Coronavirus is spreading fast and lecturers who come from different parts of the state are worried about getting infected. We do not have insurance coverage or health conservation schemes. Therefore, we will not take part in the biology and physics answer-sheets evaluation on Friday too," the lecturers said.
Minister, S Suresh Kumar, said that this year the department has continued with the earlier practice of getting answer sheets evaluation in the city and he has done nothing new. He said that proper hotels and food in paying guest accommodation have been arranged for all the evaluators in the city.
Writer, L N Mukundraj, said that lecturers coming from various parts of the states run the risk of contracting coronavirus. "Even if one is infected, the whole camp is sealed down and lecturers will be put in quarantine," he observed. Instead, he said, the government should have decentralized the evaluation work.
