Bangalore, Feb 3: The fate of the long-delayed elections to the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), which were finally slated to be held on February 21 and had to be postponed after the Supreme Court’s intervention, still rmained in limbo.

The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday directed its Registry to place the public interest writ petition relating to challenging the recent notification issued by State Election Commission (SEC) withdrawing its earlier notification for holding BBMP polls to be placed before the Chief Justice, to assign to some other bench.

When the case came up for hearing before a division bench headed by Justice Manjula Chellur, the other member of the bench Justice Venugopala Gowda recused himself from hearing it, as he had appeared for the government when he was serving as the government advocate before his elevation as the High Court judge.

The division bench then directed the registry to place the PIL before the Chief Justice to assign it to some other bench. The PIL was filed by former Mayor P R Ramesh and four others.

The SEC had issued the fresh notification withdrawing its earlier one after the state government informed it that it required some more time to re-work the BBMP reservation list.

The Supreme Court on January 28 had vacated its stay on Karnataka High Court's orders directing the state government to rework the reservation of wards.
