Bengaluru, Jul 1: Amulya Leona, a student activist, had courted controversy by raising slogans hailing Pakistan at an anti-Citizenship Amendment Act meet here sometime back. She has been charged with sedition.

An application has been moved in the high court seeking to refer her case to the National Investigation Agency (NIA). A single-judge bench of the high court has transferred the petition to the division bench.

Vishal Raghu, an advocate from Mandya, has filed this petition. The court observed that the petition has sought transfer of investigation to NIA but such a petition can be considered only in the form of public interest litigation, the bench felt. As public interest litigations are considered by the division bench, it has asked the high court registrar to arrange for this case to be moved before a division bench.

The petitioner has mentioned that the investigating officer and the police personnel of Upparpet station who have registered a case against Amulya had failed to submit charge sheet within the time frame stipulated and that by making use of this loophole, Amulya has secured bail.
