Puttur, Jul 1: MLA, Sanjeeva Matandoor said that steps will be taken within a week to convert Puttur government hospital into an exclusive COVID Hospital. He added that this has become necessary in view of the increasing number of coronavirus cases.

He was speaking at a meeting of religious leaders, leaders of organizations and institutions and officials of various departments organized on Tuesday June 30 at Brahmashree Narayan Guru Hall here, about the precautions to be taken to regulate the spread of corona.

He advised the officials to impose fines on people found to be moving in public places without masks, not only in urban areas but also in rural places. He said that in case the way masks are worn is improper, legal steps should be taken. Till the disease is controlled, government meetings, functions, and religious programmes would be organized sparingly, the MLA asserted.

On this occasion, Puttur assistant commissioner, Dr Yatish Ullal, addressed the gathering. Puttur taluk panchayat president, Radhakrishna Borkar, physicians, Dr Sripati Rao and Dr Ganesh Prasad Mudraje, priest, Alfred J Pinto, religious scholar, Husain Earimi Renjilady, Shankar Bhat and many others came up with suggestions.

Taluk panchayat standing committee chairman, Saja Radhakrihna Alva, zilla panchayat member, Anita Hemanath Shetty, deputy superintendent of police, Dinakar Shetty, tahsildar, Ramesh Babu, taluk panchayat executive officer, Naveen Bhandarym and block education officer, Lokesh C were present on the dais.
