Daijiworld Media Network - Mangaluru (SP)

Mangaluru, Jul 6: Member of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee and senior advocate Subbayya Rai pointed out that as per the guidelines issued by the union home ministry on June 29 on coronavirus situation, there is provision for the transportation of people and goods within the state and also interstate. He clarified that as per the guidelines, there is no need for separate permission, acceptance or e-permits for such movements.

"Even after the release of the new guidelines, people of both Kasargod and Dakshina Kannada are facing various problems. I have already bought this anomaly to the notice of the Kerala revenue minister and will bring it to the attention of the legislators from Mangaluru and Manjeshwar. I urge the government to allow people to freely move between states as per the central guidelines," he said.

He said that Kasargod and Manjeshwar taluks in Kerala and Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts of Karnataka are considered as common area as they form part of Tulunadu. "Restrictions placed on inter-state movement have been posing a lot of problems. Personally I have houses and agricultural land in both the states. The current restrictions have been creating a lot of problems for me. This is the problem faced by many other people too," he said.

It's really unfortunate that both the state governments (kerala and Karnataka) are not heeding to the guidelines of the union government dated 29/6/20.

The state governments have power to declare certain areas as containment zones but curtailing interstate movement is against the constitutional provision. Driving on highways is dangerous but that does not mean that we have to block the movement of traffic. Let's have a pragmatic approach and take measures to contain the virus without effecting our normal lives
