Karkala, Jul 20: Several shops and banks were sealed down after a hotel owner who was also a taluk panchayat member was found to be infected by coronavirus on Monday.

He was hospitalized on Sunday night. His hotel, 15 houses, 30 shops and a national bank in the vicinity were sealed.

The person had reportedly ventured around Belman market before he had tested positive for the virus. A gram panchayat member and his wife were infected a few days ago. The villagers have grown fearful over the rise in the number of infections.
