Mumbai: Animal rights activist arrested for objectionable remarks against Northeastern states

Mumbai, Jul 22: The Nagaland police arrested animal rights activist Hema Chowdhary on Friday, July 17 from Mumbai on accusations of objectionable remarks about the people of Northeastern states. She was taken to Kohima on Monday, July 20.

She was arrested from her residence in Oshiwara in the western part of the city.

The cybercrime police station in Nagaland registered an offense after she had made remarks in Youtube video. She was then arrested on charges under section 153A, 153B, and 505 of the IPC, as informed by one of the officials.

Chowdhary sought for police remand after she was produced before the chief judicial magistrate.

Following the protocols, she will be undergoing a quarantined lockup for 14 days under police remand and interrogated. The team of police was also tested for COVID-19 and the results are awaited.
