Mangaluru: Milagres Central School celebrates 'Konkani Manyata Diwas 2026'

Mangaluru, Aug 21: The 'Konkani Manyata Diwas 2026’ celebration was held on August 20 at Milagres Central School, Mangaluru, in association with the ‘Konkani Bhasha Mandal Karnataka (R) Mangaluru.

The programme began with a prayer song, followed by the welcome of the dignitaries and the lighting of the lamp. Fr Joseph Uday Fernandes, principal of Milagres Central School, Mangaluru inaugurated the programme and delivered the message of the day, highlighted the importance of the Konkani language. Present on the dais were Fr Joseph Uday Fernandes, Melwyn Vas, principal, Milagres PU College, Mangaluru, K Vasanth Rao, treasurer, KBMK, chairperson of the programme Raymond D'Cunha Taccode, president of KBMK.

The dignitaries addressed the gathering and spoke about the Konkani language and its rich culture, heritage and the need for the younger generation to preserve and promote it. Reymond D'Cunha spoke about the importance of the Konkani language in the field of education and highlighted the various opportunities available for students to learn and promote the language. He also conducted a Konkani quiz for the students, in which students participated with great enthusiasm. The event concluded with vote of thanks.

Teachers of Milagres Central School, Ivan Crasta, Melita Fernandes and Smitha Mathais were also present at the programme. Teacher Godwina D’Souza compered the programme.
