Udupi, Jul 28: “All the private hospitals registered under Ayushman Bharath scheme should mandatorily reserve 50% of the hospital beds for coronavirus patients. The registration of those hospitals that do not reserve the beds will be cancelled," warned deputy commissioner G Jagadeesha. He was speaking at the meeting held with private hospital heads at the district panchayat auditorium on Tuesday.

“All the private hospitals should get themselves registered under ABRK scheme. Hospitals are not permitted to send back Covid-19 patients for a shortage of beds. Their registration will be cancelled and a case under Epidemic Act will be registered against them if they refuse admission to Covid patients. They should provide details of all the facilities available in the hospitals,” he said.

“Udupi is in the first position in the death rate and violations of coronavirus regulations in the state. FIRs are registered against 69 people who violated quarantine regulations,” said the DC.

District panchayat CEO Preethi Gehlot asked the hospitals to provide the number of beds, the number of beds used and vacant, beds reserved and the number of ventilators and ICU present in the hospitals.

Additional deputy commissioner Sadashiva Prabhu, DHO Dr Sudhir Chandra Sooda, district surgeon Dr Madhusoodan Nayak, health department officials and heads of various hospitals were present.
