Mangaluru: Employees of packaging industry undergo rapid antigen test

Mangaluru, Aug 1: MLA, Dr Bharath Shetty, said that employees of a packaging industry in Gurpur revenue division are undergoing rapid antigen tests and the remaining employees will pass through this test on Saturday. He said that later, as per the government rules, the industry would be shut down, sanitization will be performed and other safety measures would be undertaken.

He was speaking at an emergency meeting of officials held in the city on Friday July 31. It was attended by assistant commissioner, Madan Mohan, tahsildar, Guruprasad, assistant tahsildar, Shivaprasad and village accountant, Dinesh.

The officials revealed that there are local employees and people from other states in the packaging unit and that 39 among them have been infected. They also stated that with the support of the company, a COVID care centre has been opened near Kempadavu nearby where the facility to keep them isolated has been made. Some employees can undergo home quarantine too, they stated.

The officials said that already over 500 employees have been tested out of 2,400 employees of the company. Shetty instructed the officials to ensure that the infection does not spread further, by taking precautionary measures. He advised them to identify people who were in contact with the infected persons and to keep them in isolation.
