Mangaluru, Aug 5: The fourth additional district and sessions court here has found that charges levelled against a man from Permude village have been proved. Therefore, the man was sentenced to five years jail term.
The accused was charged with coming home drunk and repeatedly meting out mental harassment to a woman living next door. He was also charged with making an attempt to kill her.
Sunil Kumar (42) from Kitaki in Permude was held guilty in the case. It is said that Sunil Kumar came home drunk often, approached the woman living in his neighbourhood and picked quarrel. She had filed a complaint against him in Bajpe police station. Angered at this act, he had tried to kill the lady with a wooden stick when she was returning home after working as a labourer on February 28, 2019. He also had robbed a cellphone in her possession. Another complaint was therefore registered by the lady in Bajpe police station.
Bajpe police inspector, Parashiva Murthy, undertook an investigation and filed a charge sheet in the court. Judge of the court, T P Ramalinge Gowda, who conducted hearings in the case, came to the conclusion that charges against the accused have been proved. Finding him guilty of illegal obstruction and murderous assault, he awarded five years imprisonment and Rs 11,000 fine.
The prosecution had produced nine witnesses and 19 documents in the case. Out of the fine amount, the distressed woman, Tanuja, will be paid Rs 5,000, the judge stated.
Public prosecutor, Harishchandra Udyavar, presented the case on behalf of the prosecution.
