Bengaluru, Aug 17: Eight persons who were in the list of wanted persons prepared by the police and for whom a search was on, were arrested from SDPI office here on Sunday, August 16. A team of city central police, who raided the SDPI office at Ramakrishna Hegde Nagar on the basis of the information, took them into custody.

The operation was conducted in tune with the information provided by SDPI district secretary, Muzammil Pasha, who was arrested in connection with the disturbances on Tuesday. Police officials said that they are being subjected to intense questioning after subjecting them to COVID and medical checks. They also said that cricket bats iron rods, sticks and clubs were recovered from the arrested accused.

The police have information that the arrested accused had incited the people to come together in large numbers in front of DJ Halli police station through social media. The forensic science checks have brought to light that kerosene and petrol were used during the riots. Samples of burnt vehicles, buildings and partially burnt things were collected by forensic science officials and tests confirmed use of petrol and kerosene.

A fact-finding team of the BJP visited the spot of the disturbances and also the house of MLA, Akhanda Srinivas Murthy. It was headed by state BJP vice president, Aravind Limbavali. State president of the party, Nalin Kumar Kateel, will undertake a visit on Monday.

Aravind Limbavali said that it is clear that a systematic plan was made by vested interests. He said that the Congress leaders are not willing to condemn the incident even though a Dalit legislator of their own party faced so much injustice. He also demanded an investigation into Facebook posts made by others.
