Mangaluru, Aug 17: Tulunada Rakshana Vedike submitted a memorandum to police commissioner Vikash Kumar pertaining to a fraud carried out by five accused.

Tulunada Rakshana Vedike led by its president Yogesh Shetty Jeppu conducted a press meet.

It is said that Benedicta Lobo resident of Kuppepadav, alleged that accused Farida Begum, Johra, Ubedulla and Lateef happen to be her neighbours. Benedicta Lobo trusts her neighbours as she knows them for years. Farida has married Rameez. Farida had approached Benedicta asking for money stating some problem, with the promise of returning it back in two months.

Benedicta gave Rs 60,000 to Farida, who repeatedly kept asking for money and pressurizing Benedicta in giving more. So Benedicta ended up giving Rs 50 lac and 749-gram gold in 2018. Every time the accused called Benedicta for money she used to pressurize her and cheat her by promising its return.

When I asked for my money and jewellery back, the accused blackmailed and abused Benedicta saying that the money will not be paid back. They even threatened Benedicta's husband. Later, they agreed to pay Rs 15 lac and the jewellery before June 30 giving a cheque that bounced. To date they have failed to return the money.

Benedicta urged their arrest as it is a big fraud and alleging that many more families could become victims of this fraud.

It is also said that a complaint had been filed at Moodbidiri police station against the same accused on August 8, where they cheated a jewellery shop owner by giving a fake cheque and taking back the jewellery.
