Mangaluru, Aug 20: The southwestern railway will be increasing the carrying capacity of the Sakleshpur - Subrahmanya section of the railway line in the ghat section. This area falls within the ghat section of the Mysuru division.

By making use of the funds available in Hassan - Mangaluru Railway Development Corporation, a modern signalling project has been taken up in the ghat region at an expense of Rs 5.3 crore. divisional railway manager, Aparna Garg, said that this project may be completed by the end of September.

Once this project is completed, in places of the current facility that can operate up to 13 trains, 20 trains can be run. This project had been approved in the budget presented on March 5 by the chief minister, B S Yediyurappa. The project envisages providing crossing facilities at Kadagaravalli and Yedakumeri stations, Aparna Garg said in a virtual press conference held in Mysuru.

"Before the lockdown, nine express and passenger trains were operational in Mysuru division. Later, four to five goods trains will run on this line. The division can operate about 11 goods trains on this route," she stated. She also added that as per the demand by railway passengers, the railway board will take up proposals to run additional trains on this route. She said that the proposal to resume running of Bengaluru - Karwar trains via Mysuru has been dropped.

The divisional manager of the commerce department, Priya Shetty, was present.
