Mangaluru, Aug 24: St Sebastian Church, Bendore, organized a week-long spiritual renewal programme from August 16 to August 23 for its parishioners to commemorate 106 years of its establishment. The programme included Holy Eucharist at 5.30 pm followed by Novena to Patron Saint on the main theme, ‘Let us nourish our faith and become lively witnesses of Christ’.
Each day had a definite theme for contemplation and prayer. The themes reflected on various days are:
Day 1: God is all-powerful and I am His humble creature
Day 2: Our God is Healer
Day 3: God is merciful and forgiving
Day 4: Contentment consists of sharing the riches given by God
Day 5: Let us serve God by our service to society
Day 6: God is the foundation of our faith
Day 7: Martyrdom is the strongest witness of our faith
Day 8: God is the treasure of blessings. All glory and adoration belong to Him.
Different guest priests celebrated the Mass and shared the word of God meaningfully which was followed by Novena prayer to patron saint St Sebastian. Later, the relic of St Sebastian was exposed and Mass ended with the blessings of the relic.
The last day of the Mass was celebrated with grandeur and devotion.
Fr Vincent Monteiro, the parish priest, celebrated the festive Mass with Fr Walter D'Mello, Fr Nelson Peris and Fr Ashwin Crasta as concelebrants.
The Mass was made lively and meaningful by the parish choir.
After the Mass, Fr Vincent Monteiro was felicitated with a bouquet by Mavis Rodrigues, secretary for parish council, and the assistant parish priests on being chosen by the bishop as the dean of Episcopal Varado, Mangalore diocese.
All the days of devotion were made available live on YouTube, Facebook and Divine Word channel so that children, aged and sick could be a part of the devotion.
