Kuwait extends visa validity - Indians heave sigh of relief

Kuwait, Aug 26: Those who are employed in Kuwait and are on a visit to their home country having visa validity till August 31 have good news. The Kuwait government has extended the validity of their visas by three more months.

Indians who came home on holiday from Kuwait during February or March this year were stranded as the lockdown was announced in both these countries on account of coronavirus infection. Many were fearful about losing their jobs. But as per the report of 'Arab Times', the validity of visas has been extended for three months with effect from September 1.

It may be recalled that other Gulf countries too had extended the visa period. In the meantime, taking note of the fact that things are returning to normalcy, Kuwait is thinking of removing the ban on flights from a number of countries, and if this happens, NRI Indians will stand to benefit, said NRI entrepreneur from Kuwait, Mohandas Kamath.

It is learnt that Kuwait has decided to implement new rules as per which visas of those who are aged over 60 but do not hold graduate degrees will not be renewed. This rule will affect thousands of people. Kuwait has 97,612 foreigners aged over 60 out of whom, only 15,502 are graduates. The graduates will not have any problem but others may encounter this problem. The new rule might come into effect from January 1 next year, it is said. Even those running businesses in Kuwait need to hold graduation certificates, it is learnt.
