Karkala, Sep 3: Due to heavy rain and strong wind, a tree that was precariously standing by the side of the tree fell on a moving motorbike on the evening of Wednesday, September 2. The rider of the motorbike lost his life on the spot.

It is learnt that the bike rider was moving on the road, the tree got uprooted on him unexpectedly. The bike rider got stuck under the branches of the fallen tree and died on the spot. This incident happened near Tenkola within Belanje gram panchayat limits near Hebri.

The deceased was Prasad Shetty (24), son of Kamta Shekhar Shetty from Belanje.

The villagers had urged the concerned department a few months back to remove the said tree that was standing dangerously by the roadside. The department failed to act on the complaint, as a result of which a man lost his life. Tension prevailed in the area for some time as the villagers who came together condemned the inertia of the forest department in strong words.
