Karwar, Sep 3: On Wednesday, September 2, the information that a terrorist had been arrested from Sirsi in the district was shared repeatedly by certain websites and the people. This issue became the main topic of discussion in Sirsi town. Finally, the district superintendent of police warned that strict action will be taken if such false rumours are spread.

This incident gave rise to doubt in the minds of the people about the possible role of certain websites and channels that are starved of sensational news, in spreading such unsubstantiated information.

The information said that several sim cards used by members of some terrorist organizations were issued in the name of a person from Sirsi. The National Investigation Agency came to Sirsi and reportedly arrested the person in question, the news said. There were also statements like Sirsi has become a hideout for terrorists.

The police department which came to know about this, put together a lot of information and then concluded that no investigation agency had visited Sirsi and the news was fake. The department issued a release confirming that no investigation or arrest had happened.

A release from the office of the superintendent of police noted that some news like Sirsi has become a hideout for JMB terrorists, Sirsi was visited by RAW and intelligence agencies of the central government etc in certain media. It dismissed this news as rumours and stated that if there is any information worth sharing the office of the district superintendent of police will provide the same through a media release. The police also warned that those who spread false information will suffer strict action.
