Moodbidri: Man cutting down sandalwood tree held, accomplice flees

Moodbidri, Sep 3: A person was caught when he was cutting down a sandalwood tree standing inside the protected forest in Padukonaje village within the limits of Shirtady patrol limits of the forest department. 3.6 kg sandalwood was seized from his possession.

The man's accomplice succeeded in running away. The accused, Seasappa from Beluvai Nadigudde, who was arrested when cutting down sandalwood inside the protected forest has been handed over to the police. The man who fled has been identified as Raju.

A team of officials led by deputy range officer Manjuanth and others working under the directions of assistant forest conservator Dr Prashanth, and range forest officer Prakash Poojary, made this arrest.
