7 more US soldiers in S.Korea test Covid-19 positive

Seoul, Sep 3 (IANS): Seven more American soldiers in South Korea have tested positive for the novel coronavirus, the US Forces Korea (USFK) said on Thursday.

The USFK said in a statement that seven service members were infected after arriving in South Korea between August 15-29, reports Xinhua news agency.

Three service members arrived at the Osan Air Base on US government-chartered flights on August 17, 19 and 28.

The Osan Air Base is located in Pyeongtaek, 70 km south of Seoul.

The four others arrived at Incheon International Airport, west of Seoul, aboard commercial flights on August 15, 17, 28 and 29.

The patients have been transferred to designated isolation facilities at Camp Humphreys or the Osan Air Base, both in Pyeongtaek.

The total number of infections among the USFK-affiliated personnel has increased to 175, according to Yonhap news agency.

"Despite the recent confirmed cases, USFK remains at a high level of readiness with less than 1 per cent of its active-duty service members currently confirmed positive with Covid-19," it said.
