Udupi: Four children fishing in Malpe fisheries port, rescued

Udupi, Sep 3: Four children were rescued while fishing in Malpe fisheries port by the concerned department on Wednesday, September 2 and were handed over to the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) for rehabilitation. The labour department, social welfare department, department of public instruction Udupi, district child protection unit, Malpe police department, children helpline and the team of Spoorthi Vishwasada Mane rescued three boys and one girl reported to be migrant labourers from Gadag, Raichur and Ballary.

The department of labour said that the government can penalize the employers with imprisonment between six months to two years and/or fine between Rs 20,000 up to Rs 50,000 for employing children under 14 years of age as per the Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Amendment Act, 2016.
