Karkala: Girl elopes with colleague - Younger sister dies on hearing information

Karkala, Sep 4: In an incident which happened at Manjalthar in Mala village here on Thursday September 3, a girl who heard over her mobile phone that her elder sister had eloped with her colleague, fell sick and passed away.

A girl named Surakshitha from Mala village, who was working for a food processing company, had gone missing all of a sudden, since the last two days. Her parents had lodged a missing complaint in the police station. On Thursday, Surakshitha made a call to her younger sister over mobile phone, and told her that she was not interested in marrying the man who was chosen by the family elders as her would-be husband. She told her sister that she had run away with her lover, identified as her colleague Bhuvan, and asked the family members not to make any effort to search for her.

Shwetha, who came to know what her elder sister Surakshitha had done, became very sick and died. Shwetha was an epileptic and was shocked at the sudden turn of events as explained by Surakshitha. After she fell ill, she was admitted into the hospital but in spite of doctors efforts her life could not be saved.

Surakshita's marriage had been fixed, and an engagement ceremony had been held during the lockdown period. But it is learnt that she was in love with Bhuvan of Assam origin, who was her colleague. Now, both of them have escaped. With the death of Shwetha, the family members are left grieving uncontrollably.

A report about the incident was registered in Karkala rural police station.

In the meantime, the police of Karkala rural station, with whom a missing complaint was registered about Surakshitha on September 2, have been searching for her. The complaint was filed by her mother Suneetha.

Suneetha stated that her daughter, working for Bahubali Sweet factory in Nallur village, had not returned after leaving home for work on September 2 morning. She said that the family suspects that she had gone with Bhuvan from Assam. The height of the girl has been given as 4'8", fair complexion, round face, can converse in Tulu and Kannada, and has studied till 12th standard. She was wearing a churidar with red pants and green veil, the mother said in her complaint.
