Shivamogga: Facebook friend deceives school headmistress of Rs 48 lac

Shivamogga, Sep 7: A complaint of Facebook fraud has been registered in the cybercrime police station in the city. The headmistress of a private school at Sagar in the district has said that a person who got introduced to her through Facebook, has cheated her after collecting Rs 48 lac.

The headmistress had, through a Facebook post, informed the donors that the school is badly in need of lacs of rupees in the form of donations from philanthropists for its operations. A person identified a Dr Mark W Donald, who noticed this request, got in touch with the headmistress by sending her a friend request. After getting introduced to her he made her believe that he would be able to get good donations for the school.

During the last three months, on multiple occasions, he convinced the headmistress to transfer money to his account on various occasions, telling her that money had to be remitted for converting foreign currency into Indian rupees. He reportedly collected Rs 47.84 lac in this fashion by way of fund transfers to his account on different occasions by misleading and cheating the headmistress, as per her complaint.
