Udupi: Light pole falls on bike, pillion rider critically injured

Udupi, Sep 7: An old light pole in front of Krishna Kalyana Mantapa, Kelaparkala, on Parkala national highway 169 has fallen on a bike rider damaging the bike and critically injuring the pillion rider. The incident took place on Monday afternoon and the injured was rushed to the hospital immediately.

The injured has been identified as Hiriadka, Anjar resident Sadashiva Sherigar (58). Manipal station police conducted spot inspection following the incident. Fortunately, the rider of the bike escaped with minor injuries.

The incident took place after a coconut tree in the compound of a house fell on power lines due to strong winds. MESCOM officials arrived at the spot, separated the pole, cables and made way for traffic.

Local people grew furious over the district administration who widened the roads at other places but left this portion of the road. People blamed the administration for the accidents and urged for the widening of the road. They said that the district administration is responsible for the loss of people's personal properties.
