Shivamogga, Sep 25: Three persons died on the spot after a car dashed against an electric pole near Garthikere in Hosanagara taluk in the district on Thursday September 24. None of them died on account of the accident itself but were electrocuted later.

The victims of the accident were Lohit (34), Kalavathi (60) and Shashank (8). The family had undertaken a pilgrimage to Dharmasthala. On their return journey back home, their car hit a roadside electric pole.

Immediately after the accident, Lohit, who was driving the car, got down to check. However, he died of electric shocks. Kalavathi, who turned panicky at the sight of her son collapsing to the ground, got down along with her grandson, Shashank (8) and both suffered severe electric shocks and died on the spot.

Kalavathi's daughter, Ambika (35), her husband, Ravi Bhat (45) and their son, Ganesh (15), who remained seated inside the car escaped unhurt. The earth was wet on account of rains and electricity was being transmitted through the ground at the time, it is suspected.
